The Orthodox Metropolia of Milan and Aquileia saved the church after 50 years of abandonment thanks to an agreement with its owners, Barons Lanni Della Quara. The church was restored and reconsecrated on November 10, 2013 by Bishop Avondios, with the installation of the First Abbot of the Monastery, Father Diodor.
Today, the Orthodox Monastery of Lonato houses three monks who dedicate their lives to prayer and contemplation, representing an example of Orthodox spirituality in northern Italy and an important testimony to local history and culture.
The church is a place of great popular devotion, highlighted by the votive offerings, stelae and crosses erected in memory of the dead of the forest and the victims of the plague. The Monastery produces candles for the faithful and other handicrafts, including high-quality incense, making it the first monastery in Italy to do so.
